Sacred Forest / Ruhani Bagh

Mobirise

Considering that deforestation has taken place at a large scale in Punjab due to through the Green Revolution phase, the sarpanch of Chamaru, also a founding trustee of Pehal, Harpreet Singh, has taken the initiative to invite the children of the village to plant trees around the village and to convert one-and-a-half acres of the panchayat land around the cremation ground into a “Sacred Forest” or Ruhani Bagh. This process is already underway and are a variety of trees are being planted during these monsoon months. The trees include, mango, guava, neem, Malabar neem, chandan (sandalwood), jamun, amla, bael, karonda, morenga and others, as well as berries and a variety of flowering shrubberies.
The plan is to convince the panchayat to add another one acre to the Sacred Forest project by next year
